What is Vinci?

Vinci names the AI research, models, technologies, and products developed by SimpleDirect®. SimpleDirect is an independent Canadian AI lab operated by Alpine Pacific Trading Inc. in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Models, software and apps

A model is the part that generates responses. Downloadable model weights are the numbers learned during training, not an app you can open on their own. You need compatible software to run them. A model card is the publisher’s page with download instructions, usage terms and known limits.

Vinci Code CLI is an open-source coding tool used in a terminal. It builds on Pi, by Mario Zechner; see its overview and source attribution . A software release is separate from a model release or hosted account.

Current model entry points

The model catalogue  is the current index. The following release information was reviewed on September 28, 2026:

  • Vinci MLE 1.0: 8B and 30B research models for machine-learning engineering, released under Apache-2.0. A valid evaluation on reserved ML-engineering tasks was not completed for 1.0. The 123B model is not part of the downloadable release. Read the release and limitations .
  • Vinci Cyber 1.0: 8B, 30B and 123B defensive cybersecurity models. The 8B and 30B models use Apache-2.0; 123B uses Modified MIT (Mistral AI). Evidence differs by size: one model’s result is not a result for all three. Read the release and individual model links .
  • Earlier research: Piccolo, Bozza and experimental Prova remain in the model and research record .

These sizes are model labels, not statements about which file will fit your computer. The practical guides  explain how to choose a download and read a test result.

What you can do with it

Hosted services under maintenance: Vinci Chat, Mobile, Platform and the managed API are under maintenance. The instructions below are retained for when the relevant features are available; they do not promise access or a return date. This notice does not apply to public model downloads or Vinci Code’s bring-your-own-key setup. See the current products page .

The following describes hosted app features; it is not an availability announcement.

  • Chat in the Vinci app — on the web, iOS, or Android. Ask questions, draft and rewrite text, summarize, plan, learn. You can attach files and images, and Vinci automatically uses web search for up-to-date answers.
  • Get more than a reply. For the right question, Vinci automatically pulls in live weather or news, asks a clarifying question before an open-ended task, or gathers a few independent perspectives (Vinci Council) on a genuinely tough call — no setup, it decides per message. See Using the Vinci app.
  • Build with it — Vinci also offers an API, so developers can put it inside their own apps and tools. (That part is covered in the developer docs .)
  • Use it in coding tools — Vinci works inside popular coding assistants if you write software.

What to check before choosing a setup

  • Data handling: a hosted app and software running on your own computer can have different data paths. Read Your data & privacy and the published policy .
  • Downloads and licences: check the exact model card. Open weights do not mean that every model uses the same licence or that every app feature runs locally.
  • Behavior and evidence: Vinci’s values describe intended behavior; research reports  describe what was tested, including limitations.

The classes

The retained hosted-service instructions use model classes: names for routing a request, distinct from the downloadable model releases above. The class labels below do not establish current availability or a quality ranking.

  • Vinci Mezzo (id mezzo) — the lighter class described in the existing app guidance. The retained routing reference is DeepSeek V4 Flash on DeepInfra.
  • Vinci Forte (id forte) — the default described in the existing app guidance. The retained routing reference is GLM 5.2 on DeepInfra.
  • Vinci Fortissimo (id fortissimo) — another class in the existing app guidance. The retained routing reference is Kimi K3 on Fireworks.

The class name stays stable while the model behind it can rotate after evaluation. In a chat, click the model badge at the top right to open the class panel and switch inline. You can also choose under Settings → Personalization, with a per-app override if you want one app to differ.

The hosted services are under maintenance. See the products overview  for current information; no return date is stated here.

Get the app

Existing store links for Vinci Mobile are retained for reference; they do not establish service availability during maintenance. App Store for iPhone and iPad — download it for iOS  — and on Google Play for Android — download it for Android . The existing web-app address is vinci.getsimpledirect.com .
